Strike a Chord- A Celebration of Women’s Voices is a multimedia production that allows young women and men of today the opportunity to understand, celebrate and participate in the importance of Women’s day. It also attempts to bridge the gap between today’s youth and the older generation of women who are responsible for the recognition of this day. Men and women will be working side by side to create this event so that a variety of voices can be heard paying homage to women. This is in the interests of giving a voice to all regardless of gender and cultural background.
Protest by women was an important part of mobilization in the 1950’s where they coordinated campaigns of non-registration, pass burning and petitioning. This culminated in a mass demonstration in August 1956 where 26 000 women from all over the country marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest of the pass laws. It is acts such as these, where women demanded recognition for their rights which have helped to shape our cultural attitudes and to improve the lives of many.
In the spirit of our elders, women of today must have their voices heard!
We want to give talented, young women this platform. We believe women play an important role in the lives of young girls by providing them with positive role models.
By paying homage to older women in entertainment, politics, and business, we provide a platform for them to inspire and uplift both young women and teenaged girls.
You strike a woman, you strike a rock! July 16, 2006

We are women from every part of South Africa. We are women of every race, we come from the cities and the towns, from the reserves and the villages. We come as women united in our purpose to save the African women from the degradation of passes.

Strike a Chord – A celebration of Women’s Voices
PPP is proud to announce a new festival that we hope will grow and become an annual event. On 8 August we will be hosting the first Strike a Chord – A Celebration of Women’s Voices at Artscape Theatre.
Strike a chord – A Celebration of Women’s Voices is a 2hr multimedia production with various art forms that allows young women of today the opportunity to celebrate, understand and participate in the importance of Women’s Day. It also attempts to bridge the gap between today’s talented youth and the older generation who are responsible for the recognition of this day. Watch future press for details.
Since we have been given the opportunity to do this production we need to raise funds to cover some costs which have thus far, not been covered. We will be hosting a series of fundraising events over the next two months.
Since we have become renowned for throwing some of the liveliest parties in Cape Town, the first of these fundraisers will take place the 12, 19 and 26th May at Zula Sound Bar in Long Street. Each Friday at ‘Strike a Chord’ you will experience a varied range of musical styles with the likes of JHB artist Zubz and Cape Town’s Jitsvinger, Godessa, D’Low, Black Betty, Keeno–Lee and Vicky (Kwezi Malaika ) feat. Kazi with our regular Dj’s Chyna, Baron X and Graeme. Entrance is R30 and artist cd’s will be on sale. We are also proud to screen the short film ‘Ongeriewe’ by Tristam Atkins (AFDA) once again since the film has been selected for the Cannes Film Festival in France this month. The screening will take place on Fri 19th May before the performances start.
We are also very fortunate to have another company Fusionworx host a Winter’s Ball on our behalf on Sat, 10th June. It is a formal event at an up market venue so pull out those evening dresses, tuxedo’s and ball gowns for a warm evening of fun, networking, great food and live entertainment. Tickets will be pre-sold at R150. Contact Euodia Samson on 082 607 4000.
PPP is also very proud to announce that the collection of clothing and stationary collected at the last ‘Kit a kid’ event has been donated to David Christian Moravian School in Steenberg just in time for the winter cold. Once again we would like to thank each and every person who contributed. Your goodwill shall keep a child warm this winter.
Any information relating to any of these events can be accessed through Chad Abrahams at 021 447 65 67 or via partywithapurposeproductions@yahoo.com
